Golfjunkie A/W10 collection

The A/W10 collection I designed for Golfjunkie is on-line now, check it out! It's featured on both the European, as well as the US website. I also added it to my portfolio.

HOPSAN at Coco-Mat in Arnhem

I helped to prepare this shop window for the Fairtrade week 2010 at the Coco-Mat store in Arnhem. The eco-friendly babywear brand HOPSAN is available at this store until the end of November '10. Inside the Coco-Mat store, you can also find the award-winning HOPSAN booth from the Playtime trade fair in Paris, filled with beautiful hip and organic baby goodies.

Merci Paris

I was quite impressed when I visited the Merci department store in Paris. Check out this great bookshelf by Peter Marigold.

Oslo gems

Accidentally discovered such a nice place in the Gronland area in Oslo...

Things Organized Neatly

Oo, I do like this website a lot. And especially this shoot for the new IKEA cookbook: "Homemade is Best"

Vis-à-Vis

Vis-à-Vis' theatre always amazes me - they seem to have an unlimited amount of crazy ideas and always pick the best locations for their spectacular shows (Almere Beach, that was a first!)

Thanks Tomek, for these Hipstamatic pics! One day you'll be famous.

Dr. Archichef at Sunday Market

Eating mini-sandwiches out of a plastic bubble from the Archichef at the Sunday Market in Amsterdam. Love his crazy ideas: omelet bonbons?!

My first animated GIF.

Big green balloons and lots of interesting people at the Kunstgras event at Pastoe. A perfect setting for some excellent network activity between business investors and the creative scene in Utrecht.

SWATCH for DJ Broadcast

With about 80 creative people, we worked on a 24 hour issue of DJ Broadcast magazine. This was part of the Off Centre festival in The Melkweg in Amsterdam. I worked with a team of photographers, art directors, graphic designers and illustrators to create a 6 page spread for SWATCH. Check the result here

Color by Numbers

Check out this 'color-by-numbers' Martin Margiela space at 10 Corso Como. Mmm, an extra reason to visit Milan sometime soon.

Found at Notcot

Motel Mozaïque

423 surprising moments, dancefloor adventures, the biggest smile on my face and the best breakfast in ages...

Kunstgras

Just found out about Kunstgras. Looks like that's where I'll be on June 2.

Bernhard & Folkert in Groningen

The main reason for my visit to the Groninger museum was the Bernhard Willhelm & Jutta Kraus exhibition, but Folkert de Jong's pastel landscapes (and especially this guy on the heater - yeah!) made me spend an extra fascinated hour or so.

Rotterdam - I like

wining & dining Rotterdam harbour style at the Z&M Deli

Hammerzeit!

I saw this hilarious image on fffound.com and thought it would be a good way to promote the upcoming Berlin-theme 'Kultursonntage' in Utrecht on November 7&8.

NAI

The Architecture Institute in Rotterdam is showing the exhibition 'Open City: Designing Coexistence'. I was quite intrigued by this cardboard-skyline-sphere.

Fashion United Event

I visited the 'Work in Fashion Event' in the World Fashion Centre. Very interesting to meet people from all different types of companies. And the objectives are clear from both sides: they're looking to find new people, I'm looking to find new companies in need of freelancers - perfect!

VIP bus

Sometimes, I find myself in strange places. Like last weekend; I spent my Saturday afternoon in a redecorated van from which, in the old days, groceries used to be sold in the streets. The flyer said; 'bring any type of food and our magic cook will transform it into something completely unexpected'. And so he did. He 'cooked' the mackerel in orange- and grapefruitjuice (ceviche) and made a mousse out of celery and gingerroot, topped off with tomato caviar. Loved this molecular cooking experiment!

The van is called the VIPbus. The events they organize and the setting of the van provide a great background to meet all different types of people in a very unexpected place.

Oogst

The ladies from 'Oogst' presented their new collection of jewellery at the Amrath Hotel in Amsterdam, a monumental shipping house. The inspiration for this collection came from the early 20th century, which matched really well with the Art Deco Hotel.

Flux-S

Ok, I must admit; this was the first time I actually made it over to the old departed Philips building, now known as the Strijp-S location in Eindhoven. During the Flux-S arts festival, visitors could wander through the old warehouse buildings and the former physics laboratory (Natlab). Some of the works presented were specifically designed to match this derelict industrial site, for example the amazing parasite-like construction by Frank Havermans.

Awearness Fair Fashion Event

Last week, I visited the Awearness Fair Fashion Event in Arnhem. The focus was on durable workwear, sustainable alternatives for existing fabrics and ethical production circumstances. One of the participating labels in the fashion show is founded by one of my former class mates at HKU; Jitske Lundgren. She now runs Studio JUX, a designer label with a cool eco-collection made by Nepali tailors under fair working conditions.

Services

I have added some details about what it is I do exactly as a freelancer under services.

HOPSAN goes LIVE!

Yesyes, the HOPSAN website is on-line! Check out the cool and comfy babywear collection based around the use of organic cotton, reduced fabric waste and inventive seamless knitwear.

Costume design by Helga Schumann

Sophie's Artprojects put a book together with work of various artists in Utrecht. Check out page 49 for 3 great pieces by "Helga Schumann; creator of theatre costume and wearable art"

On-line portfolio in the making..

Check out a couple of sports inspired women's silhouettes under my work.

Pluk de Nacht

Open air film in Amsterdam, sponsored by...

The guy at the bar took a picture of me while I ordered my drink, printed off the photo on a sticker and pasted it on the bottle. No room for error whose beer this is!

Air Pressure

Ten of Paul McCarthy's 'inflatables' are currently on show at the botanical gardens of the Uithof in Utrecht.

Obviously, someone was having a laugh deciding on the ideal location of this mobile toilet...made me chuckle anyway.

On-line portfolio in the making..

I have posted some ideas for a children's wear collection under 'my work'.

Here, you can also find a men's and a women's outfit based around a pair of jeans, including technical descriptions.

Check it out!

Berlin

Urban affairs in Stattbad Berlin; a street-art exhibition in an old public swimmingpool, what better venue to pick?!

At night there was a Disco Mystix party in the cellars of the pool, surrounded by kettles & pipes. Check out the images on the urban affairs website.

I got my eye on this trailer at Cassiopeia

De Affaire

Graphic black & white outfits at Lucy Love's performance at the Affaire in Nijmegen. Somehow, the Scandinavians always seem to get it right..

Impressed by Kap Bambino's performance in a medieval ruin at the Valkhofparc, I found a promo video on youtube. The first 30 seconds are amazing; some raw cut urban views accompanied by electronic tunes. Like it a lot.

Deadmau5 at 5 days off

Canadian DJ Deadmau5 played at Paradiso during 5 days off. His helmet's got a little red light inside for evil looks. To be honest, I was more impressed with this evil helmet then with his set. The visuals were cool though, some parts looked layered, almost like stage scenes.

On-line portfolio in the making..

I uploaded a couple of things I have worked on in the past - check it out under 'my work'

Pecha Kucha

Again, some interesting presenters at the Pecha Kucha night in Amsterdam. It's a great concept; creative people showing 20 slides in 6 min & 40 sec. The goodluck passes from Sue Doeksen are cute and I wouldn't mind working in the cardboard office by Alrik Koudenburg.

HOPSAN at the Kleine Fabriek

I went to the Kleine Fabriek with my friend Thea. It's a trade fair for kids and babywear labels. Thea has designed & developed a new babywear brand called HOPSAN. It's a beautiful collection, mainly focusing on the use of organic cotton, reduced fabric waste and inventive seamless knitwear. The HOPSAN website is in the making but definitely worth checking out in a couple of weeks.

Ostel Berlin

I'm off to Berlin in a few weeks, staying at the coolest 'communist retro' hostel in town, check it out!!!

Sonar 2009 Barcelona

 Love the outfit!

Grace Jones = hot....STILL!!!

Hula-hooping away on stage at the delicate age of 61 at Sonar 2009 in Barcelona...

Arnhem Mode Biënnale 2009

Arnhem Mode Biënnale 2009

Henrik Vibskov & Andreas Emenius

The Zeeuws Museum in Middelburg showed 'The Fringe Projects' by Henrik Vibskov and Andreas Emenius. Below is a still from a 6 minute film showing a figure hanging upside down, covered in fringes. I couldn't stop watching it.

Pivot - the movie

A few of my friends are working on a short animation for the NPS Kort! project. It's pretty exciting to see the whole process of this movie in the making and I can't wait to see the result at the Nederlands Film Festival in September 2009.

SHRINK

At the Utrecht Museum Night I saw this crazy performance by Lawrence Malstaf. He had himself vacumed between two plastic screens. He must have felt pretty claustrofobic but it looked amazing.

my history:

Until '09, I worked in product development of sports apparel at Nike. Before I started at Nike, I lived in London where I studied Fashion Promotion & Media at London College of Fashion. I really enjoyed seeing how the fashion world works outside of the Netherlands.

I graduated in fashion design in 2004 at HKU Utrecht, the Netherlands. I spent a year at Duperrée, a design school in Paris. After my course, I worked as an intern at the accessories department of Chloé and I helped out Irish designer Sharon Wauchob in the period prior to her S/S '04 catwalk show.
